Sadyr Japarov wins the presidential election in Kyrgyzstan



The frontrunner in Kyrgyzstan’s presidential election, Sadyr Japarov, has gained by a landslide. According to the Central Election Commission, Mr Japarov had gained 79% of votes solid. Mr Japarov, who served time in jail for taking a rival hostage, may even have sweeping new presidential powers after voters by the same margin opted to amend the structure in a referendum.

Kyrgyzstan has been in disaster since parliamentary elections final October. The outcomes of these elections have been disputed, resulting in protests and the resignation of then-President Sooronbay Jeenbekov.
