India’s place has slipped by two locations to be positioned at 53rd spot within the 2020 Democracy Index, from amongst 167 nations. The general rating of India is 6.61 within the Index, on a scale of 0-10. India has been labeled as a ‘flawed democracy’. Democracy Index is the worldwide rating launched by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) that gives a snapshot of the present state of democracy worldwide.

- Norway has topped the Index.
- Iceland, Sweden, New Zealand and Canada are the highest 5 nations on the checklist.
- From the 167 nations, the Democracy Index has labeled 23 nations as full democracies, 52 as flawed democracies, 35 as hybrid regimes and 57 as authoritarian regimes.
