World Soil Day: 05 December



The World Soil Day is widely known yearly on December 5 to boost consciousness of the significance of soil high quality for human well-being, meals safety and ecosystems. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) marketing campaign “Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity” goals to elevate consciousness of the significance of sustaining wholesome ecosystems and human well-being.

The date of 5 December was chosen as a result of it corresponds with the official birthday of the late H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, King of Thailand, who was one of many major proponents of this initiative.

History of World Soil Day:

An worldwide day to have fun Soil was advisable by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002. Under the management of the Kingdom of Thailand and inside the framework of the Global Soil Partnership, FAO has supported the formal institution of WSD as a world awareness-raising platform. The FAO Conference unanimously endorsed World Soil Day in June 2013 and requested its official adoption on the 68th UN General Assembly. In December 2013, the UN General Assembly responded by designating 5 December 2014 as the primary official World Soil Day.
